The Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund continues to raise donations that will help local families’ wishes come true this Christmas.

Jody Magill, Stakeholder Relations Manager for Methanex and Danielle Semrau-McLean, Stakeholder Relations Advisor for Methanex, were on hand at the Santa Claus Fund Vacation Home last Friday to hand over to Deanna Doerksen, Executive Director from SCF, a check for $ 5,000.

Nicole Pituley, Branch Manager at Scotiabank, was also in attendance, as the amount will be donated through the Scotiabank Matching Gift Program, an arrangement that allows them to match up to $ 15,000 donated to a local charity.

“We have been a big supporter of the Santa Claus Fund for several years, both through donations but also through volunteering,” said Magill. “Obviously, the need of the community that is met by the Santa Claus Fund is really important at this time of year. The ability to donate and know it will be matched by Scotiabank is great because it doubles the value and benefits the community will receive.

She says Methanex is working to help its communities.

“Through Methanex, we have a component where we give back to the community through our social responsibility,” said Magill. “One of the things we’re looking at is addressing the poverty issues in the community and meeting the needs of the community. ”

Doerksen spoke of the huge need, especially during the pandemic.

“Last year we had almost 700 families and 1,441 children. To date, we have 438 families booked… the need certainly looks great this year, ”Doerksen said.

Doerksen expressed his gratitude for Methanex’s support, saying the company has been a leader in the community and brings love and spirit to its involvement with the Fund.

Pituley added, “Methanex gives back to the community we live in and I think that’s so important. It is good to know that families in Medicine Hat are receiving help because of these donations.

Methanex, along with the Chamber of Commerce, also hosted a petting zoo last weekend during Midnight Madness downtown. Admission was made by donation for the benefit of the Santa Claus Fund.

“We are so grateful for the support,” Doerksen said.

A reminder to Hatter’s that donations made at Scotiabank branches and at the Santa Claus Fund Vacation Home at 3084 Dunmore Road will be matched by Scotiabank.
